Published only in January 2024, a good 6-7 months after the film’s release in June 2023, I had paid little attention to this book as in my experience these “official movie guides” are often just fluff and light in content, offering mostly screen captures from the film and very little concept art work/character designs.
I’m glad to be proven wrong in this particular case; I had a fortunate opportunity to browse an actual copy of this book earlier this year and to my pleasant surprise, there were actually a good amount of concept art work as well as character designs that are not included in the Spider-Man : Across The SpiderVerse The Art Of The Movie book, not to mention some really tasting looking poster art included on the last few pages.
Interviews with key creative personnel like the production designer Patrick O’keefe, head of character animation Alan Hawkins as well as VFX supervisor Mike Lasker also make for an interesting read in between the visuals and art work.
(above & below) Architectural and structural designs of buildings and infrastructure seen in the vertical train fight sequence, assets I had to work with as I was one of the key-lighters on a section of the sequence.
This is a very worthy companion/addition to the Art Of The Movie book, with a good collection of concept art/character designs and poster art not found in the former. The sturdy hardcover format and low price point makes it even more attractive; this is an easy recommendation from me.
