Radical Classic is the first art book by Japanese oil painter Imai Takahiro, collecting a full decade of his work. I first featured his paintings in another book review Bijin-Ga Borderless.
With his primary subject matter focused on females ( dedicated to two muses ), the artist’s painting style seems to be informed by dramatic stage lighting with hints of Chiaroscuro. Takahiro’s art works are part of the collective genre known as Bijinga in Japan – the word Bijin meaning ‘beautiful woman’ and Ga ‘painting/art’.
A fantastic collection of the artist’s decade long portfolio in a single volume for easy viewing pleasure. Recommended.

Wow, the use of oil paint really does give these portraits a wonderfully rich feel. The art is very appealing to me. I’ve been meaning to expand my collection out to include these kinds of artbooks.
