This illustrated book of Norse mythology by Jeffrey Alan Love first came to my attention through the numerous tweets on my twitter stream, highlighting the brilliance of the art work, and I was compelled to check it out. I’m happy to report that the praises and accolades are all true.
Disclaimer – I’ve only browsed through the book to view the art work, so my review is based solely on the illustrations and not the prose.
Painted with acrylics and inks, Jeffrey Alan Love’s Norse Gods are brooding, silhouetted forms rendered in bold blacks, with the occasional dab of rich colors to punchuate the monochrome figures; gold, red and blue.
The charcoal colored drawings really stand out well against the white background, and complements the printed text beautifully; kudos to the graphic design/layout artist who put everything together for this book.
An excellent opportunity to expand one’s knowledge of Norse mythology while enjoying the beautiful art work of Jeffrey Alan Love. I hope to read the book in its entirety soon.
