Nakamura Ippan (中村一般) is a Japanese manga artist/illustrator based in Tokyo. I discovered this art book of his in a very small indie bookstore while visiting one of my favorite places ( Nakano Broadway ) in Tokyo last spring. For the uninitiated, Nakano Broadway is a quaint shopping mall cramped full of exciting store selling all manners of manga, anime merch and toy/figures.
This art book is titled (忘れたくない風景), which basically translates as “Scenery I do not want to forget”. The artist deftly captures the mundane city vibes and sights of Tokyo; grocery stores, shopping alleys, residential streets skillfully documented through his intricate and detailed drawings. The first part of the book covers commissioned pieces, followed by the artist’s personal illustration work as well as some panels from his manga work.

A rather non-mainstream artist and illustration collection that is “off the beaten track” for lack of a better expression; I would probably have missed this little gem had I not walked into that small indie bookstore. Thankfully this book is available from Amazon Japan as well. Recommended.
