Mayonaka Gohan (真夜中ごはん/ midnight eats) is a delightful food manga by Osaka based illustrator Ishiyama Azusa (イシヤマアズサ), who also bought us the sumptuous food manga Tsumamigui Bento ( read my review here ).

The manga follows a foodie who whips up some truly mouth-watering cuisine after her day at work, and includes recipes for 17 delicious dishes, vibrantly illustrated in splendid colors by the artist. One can almost catch the aroma of the dishes just looking at the pictures.

This manga, together with the artist’s other title Tsumamigui Bento has actually inspired me to pick up several new Japanese food recipes to add to my otherwise all too bring repertoire. Even if you’re not planning to hit the stoves yourself anytime soon, I guarantee the illustrations are sure to make you hungry at least. Recommended.

If you’re into food porn illustrations, I would also highly recommend the art book Meshi Terror, which showcases some truly spectacular illustrations of Japanese cuisines, and then some.
