Steven Spielberg’s massively popular sci-fi action film Jurassic Park was not only a mega blockbuster that captivated audiences worldwide, but also groundbreaking in its adept use of visual effects that forever changed the way computer graphics are used in film-making.
This giant hardcover volume details the art and making of the Jurassic Park trilogy, with over 250 pages of fantastic content that includes a huge collection of concept art work, storyboards and interviews with key creatives, many of which I’m seeing for the first time. I’m particularly enthralled by the very refined and polished concept art pieces of the visitor center in the first film as well as the detailed and beautifully drawn storyboards for the T-Rex’s rampage in San Diego from The Lost World, just to name a few.
In addition, the book also takes a look at the wider world of the saga, including video games, toys, comics, and more, exploring the lasting legacy of the movies and their influence on pop culture.
The sheer amount of the amazing concept art work and storyboards included in this book alone is worth the price of the book to me, but the volume is pretty expansive and covers much more. Jurassic Park fans will certainly want to pick this one up. Highly recommended.
