Ishihara Gojin ( 石原豪人 1923 – 1988 ) was a Japanese artist prolific during the Showa Era ( around 1960-70s ), illustrating images for children’s magazines and also adult publications. His subjects often featured monsters and supernatural creatures, macabre and bizzare themes, as well as erotic imagery.
This art book covers a wide gamut of his extensive portfolio, with over 100 pages of color and black & white illustrations.
I find many of these illustrations similar in theme and tone to the Fumetti artists Alessandro Biffignandi and Emanuele Taglietti.
A fascinating look at the extraordinary art work of Ishihara Gojin and the often bizarre and macabre illustrations popular during the Showa Era. I wish the print size of the book was bigger and that more of the art work were in color, although it is hard to ascertain if the originals were in color to begin with. Recommended.
