The February 2026 issue of Japanese visual arts magazine Geijutsu Shincho (芸術新潮) is a special issue dedicated to the Ghost In The Shell franchise, coinciding with the major exhibition taking place at TOKYO NODE GALLERY from Jan 30th to April 5th.
The coverage is certainly extensive, including numerous interviews with key creative personnel involved in the anime feature films as well as TV series like Mamoru Oshii, Kamiyama Kenji and Shinji Aramaki, select genga and layout boards from the films, coverage on the aforementioned Ghost In The Shell exhibition, a sneak peek on the visuals of the upcoming animated series by Science Saru and more.
There is also a small section closer to the end of the magazine featuring the work of renowned illustrator Hajime Sorayama, whose work is also showcased at the Ghost In The Shell exhibition. He has his own solo art exhibition scheduled from Mar 14th to May 31st 2026. I’ll be visiting Tokyo around the middle of May and I’m planning to visit the exhibition and will post about my experience later this year.

This issue is a great primer and digest of the entire Ghost In The Shell anime franchise leading up to the upcoming series by Science Saru. For just $11 USD, it’s quite the bang for the buck, especially for Ghost In The Shell fans. As with all periodic publications, this issue will likely not be reprinted once it sells out, so definitely pick it up while it is available if you do want a copy.
