Encounter is the title of the first art book by popular Japanese illustrator Hirotaka Tanaka. I first introduced his art work in my book review for Illustration Japanese Magazine No.214.

Hirotaka frequently illustrates art covers for Japanese novels, and his work for the series of mystery stories by Aosaki Yugo has been getting traction as of late, with game director Hideo Kojima mentioning the books on twitter –

In some ways Hirotaka Tanaka’s art work reminds me of another popular Japanese illustrator Eguchi Hisashi. Both the artists render in flat, very graphical colors but Hirotaka’s compositions have a stronger emphasis on not just the human characters but the surroundings as well.

A fantastic first art book for the artist, and I look forward to seeing more of his work in the future.
