Bill Sienkiewicz (pronounced sin-KEV-itch) is an Eisner-winning, Emmy-nominated artist whose work has graced the National Museum of Fine Arts in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; art galleries in Paris, Barcelona, and Tuscany; and advertising campaigns for Nike, MTV, Nissan, the 2006 Winter Olympics, and dozens of Hollywood movies. Sienkiewicz is a classically trained painter whose artworks incorporate abstract and expressionist influences and combine oil painting, acrylics, watercolor, mixed media, collage, and mimeograph.

The first time I came across Bill Sienkiewicz’s art work, I was quickly mesmerized by the painterly, sometimes abstract nature of his work that is seldom seen in comics; certainly not mainstream comics. I always felt his style of work had an affinity to one of my fav painters, the legendary Gustav Klimt ( and by association Egon Schiele ), and I’m happy to report that the artistic influence of these two artists on his work is indeed true, as cited in his art book Revolution.

Just like both Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele, Bill’s versatility in his art style and the ability to switch between graphic, almost abstract forms to highly realistic and detailed rendered images is one of the many reasons why Elektra is such a fascinating read.

A gorgeously illustrated volume featuring one of Marvel’s most iconic female characters, with almost 300 pages of full color art. My only regret is that this book was never published in hard cover format. Nonetheless, this comes highly recommended.

I also suggest checking out Bill Sienkiewicz’s most excellent art book Revolution.

Hi,
There was a Marvel Gallery Edition some years ago that included Elektra Assassin and Daredevil: Love & War. It was a hardcover, oversized book that unfortunately is now out of print.
You can get hardcovers in Spanish and French, as far as I know.
Thanks for your reviews!

Bill is no joke!

I love his work so much. You familiar with David Mack, and Dave McKean, two artists who were influenced by Sienkiewicz? I love comics that have a more painterly sensibility. Or with artists like Toppi as well, that move away from comics with a cinematic sensibility, they do great stuff.

Chris

Just picked this up from Amazon on the strength of this review. Looking forward to reading it.
