For starters, don’t be put off by the seemingly goofy character designs of Denno Coil, the creative brain child of anime maestro Mitsuo Iso. Quite ahead of its time during the release in 2007, Denno Coil tells the story of a world where everyday life is fully immersed in AR technology, with exceptional high quality animation for a TV series.
At over 360 pages, this definitive art book for the series includes a huge collection of colored cell art, character, props and set design sheets, original sketches by Mitsuo Iso and more.
This is an excellent companion to the two existing Denno Coil art books already published; the genga collection and Denno Coil Project. There’s also an affordable ( in comparison to the costly Japanese edition ) US edition blu-ray which I am planning to pick up.
If you are a fan of Mitsuo Iso animation work, I also highly recommend his two rt books – Animation Works One and Two.

i couldn’t agree more. Denno Coil is an absolutely fantastic anime. As you say, a bit ahead of its (and entirely missed in the US market). I knew nothing about the series at all when on a whim I ordered the blu-rays of it when it was recently released in the US, and I was blown away by its tone and the sophisticated way it explored AR information technology. A really special, super smart and emotionally rich anime that I don’t think enough people talk about.
I’m definitely putting this artbook on my list for my next Amazon Japan purchase.
