Bijinga Zukushi 3 (美人画づくし 参) is the third volume in the Bijinga series of art books ( read my review for volume 1 and volume 2 ), showcasing the “Bijinga” ( art work featuring beautiful women ) genre and the author/curator is Ikenaga Yasunari, himself a Nihonga artist with the published art book One Hundred Nights Of Bliss.
Just like volume 2, this book showcases the art work of 18 different artists using various different media, spread across 136 pages. Many of the artists featured in this volume are female artist/painters whose work is new to me, and I looking forward to exploring more of their work in the near future.
This volume is a great addition to the first two books in the series ( read my review for volume 1 and volume 2 ) and a great introduction for anyone who are new to Nihonga ( traditional Japanese painting ), with a splendid collection of beautiful art ( and women ). Highly recommended.
I also suggest checking out the author’s (Ikenaga Yasunari) art book One Hundred Nights Of Bliss, as well as Bijinga Borderless.

Lovely. There are a few non-japanese in the middle there, I wonder why.
Can you tell me if the drawing are based on real models? If they are, these women are stunning…

Deckard – I believe the artists set out to paint with Japanese art styles, but the subject matter themselves aren’t necessarily Japanese. I’m fairly certain many of the subjects painted are based on real models, and yes, they’re beautiful !
