Some pictures of the Criterion 2 disc release of South Korean director Bong Joon-ho’s critically acclaimed Parasite film, which won a whole host of awards at Cannes, BAFTA, Golden Globes and the Oscars in 2019.
This is my 2nd viewing of the film after catching it at the cinema during the theatrical run, and I’ve certainly grown more fond of the film as I learned to appreciate its many cinematic nuances after watching the splendid collection of supplementary materials found on the 2nd disc. There is also a Black & White version of the film included, and I’m sure that would offer a different viewing experience as well.
Here are some pictures of the blu-ray set and its contents –
DIRECTOR-APPROVED SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES
– New 4K digital master, approved by director Bong Joon Ho and director of photography Hong Kyung Pyo, with Dolby Atmos soundtrack on the Blu-ray
– New audio commentary featuring Bong and critic Tony Rayns
– Black-and-white version of the film, with Dolby Atmos soundtrack and a new introduction by Bong
– New conversation between Bong and critic Darcy Paquet
– New interviews with Hong, production designer Lee Ha Jun, and editor Yang Jinmo
– New program about the New Korean Cinema movement featuring Bong and filmmaker Park Chan-wook
– Cannes Film Festival press conference from 2019 featuring Bong and members of the cast
– Master class featuring Bong from the 2019 Lumière Festival in Lyon, France
– Storyboard comparison
– Trailers
– PLUS: An essay by critic Inkoo Kang
The 4K remastered print looks amazing and would certainly offer a very immersive, theatrical like viewing experience, especially if one has a big enough screen. All the included special features are great and worth a watch; I’m especially amazed by the amount of care and work that went into designing the house where most of the film is set; itself an entity that is as important as any of the characters found in the film.
I’m fairly confident the film will age like old wine and become better and better with subsequent viewings, and I might attempt a watch of the Black & White version some time in the future as well. Criterion has delivered yet another stellar release for a much deserved title; my highest recommendations.

Truly a great film and a beautiful edition. Will get it definitely one day for the extras, but has to wait right now as I already have the UHD version. My first introduction to Bong Joon-Ho was with “Memories of Murder” (which I am awaiting with some other Criterions to cross the Atlantic ;)) and still regard it as his best. A great director and let´s hope there is much more to come.
As the B&N Sale is going on I really suggest you to get Tarkovskys Mirror. Such a beatiful edition, stacked with extras and an excellent transfer.
All the best to you.

Zeljko – Same here; Memories of Murder was what introduced me to Bong’s films as well. I hope you enjoy those titles once you get them !
I’ve never seen Tarkovsky’s Mirror; but I’ll put it on my list ! Thanks for the recommendation !
