Just picked this up from a local bookstore, I seldom post reviews of U.S art books ( I highly recommend Parkablogs for that ) but I love Iain McCaig’s work so much I wanted to share with readers – just amazing, amazing artwork from this super talented artist.
(above) Designs for Padme / Amidala from Star Wars Phantom Menace. These were the first artwork of Iain Mccaig I saw and I instantly fell in love with his style of drawing ( and Natalie Portman to a slightly lesser extent )
(above) Some concept work he did for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire – that’s Mad Eye Moody and Igor Karkaroff, looking simply awwesome.
Stellar stuff from cover to cover and the book is huge, giving lots of real estate for big and beautiful prints.

Impressive work. The shading is amazing! 😮 I’m a big Star Wars fan myself. Don’t care what everyone says, but I LOVE the prequel trilogy (even more than the original trilogy, though I saw the prequels first so there’s a bit of nostalgia :p). Some of my favorite characters were introduced during that time frame (Darth Maul, General Grievous and Kit Fisto). With that said, ewoks are the best! So cute!

You know, his original drafts for Darth Maul were a lot subtler and horrific than the eventual, final design. I’m talking about one of them where it’s a she and she’s shrouded in red, the shape reminiscent of squids.
The way he designs the silhouettes are also with form already in mind, this is what separates him from a lot of others out there.
