The Art Museum (Phaidon) Book

The Art Museum by Phaidon is a massive, monolithic tome of an art book that rivals in size the giant Gustav Klimt volume that I reviewed a while back.

Carefully curated by Phaidon editors with a consulting global team of specialists in all fields of art, the Art Museum contains over 3000 paintings, sculptures, frescos, tapestries, photographs spread across 25 galleries and close to 1000 pages of content – a museum that is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

The huge print size of the book really showcase the art work to great effect and makes the reading experience incredibly immersive. The accompanying text offer brief but informative background information on the art pieces.

3000 years of art masterpieces, all at one’s fingertips. If you read it from cover to cover a page a day it would keep you entertained and educated for almost 3 years. My highest recommendations.

History of art in one book? That sure is exciting!
Hey Yonghow, I’m a big fan of your blog. This place is where I get information when I want to buy an artbook and I do believe your review is quite accurate so far.

Just like you, I loove Katsuya Terada. Will we ever know what you think about his new artbook ‘Dragon girl and Monkey King’?

yonghow

tambang – Thank you for the kind words ! The review for Terada’s Dragon Girl & Monkey King is coming up soon ! :]

Wow, super useful for AP Art History students, I’d bet! But I love looking at the history of art – more like the history of world cultures, really – and it makes me see how far we’ve come as a civilization. These beautiful stone sculptures will soon be able to printed by 3D printers. Not to mention that the religious and fantastical paintings are always captivatingly beautiful and ethereal.

yonghow

Hanlu – Much agreed. Flipping through the book also have me realize there’s so much amazing art and paintings I need to head out and see, in person ! :]
