In celebration of Ghibli studio’s 30th anniversary, The Ghibli Expo ( held in Roppongi Hills, Tokyo ) showcases gorgeous art work from studio’s every single film, including the latest Red Turtle. The highlights of the show are the promotional materials used to market Ghibli films, which have never been exhibited extensively, and also the Land Of Vehicles area featuring a mind-blowing moving replica of the battleship from Castle In The Sky.
This is one of the first exhibitions I visited on my recent Japan trip, bright eyed and bushy tailed as I landed in Tokyo, but my timing wasn’t the best as it was the summer holidays and the exhibition was just packed to the brim.
(above) Posters for the exhibition. On the left is the equally excellent Louvre No.9 ( French Comics ) exhibition which was held at the same venue. I’ll cover this in another post.
(below) Two Instagram videos I took of the Land Of Vehicles exhibit area.
No photography is allowed in most parts of the exhibition, but the press video by Japan Times below will give you a very good overview of what went on :
At the time of writing the Ghibli Expo is now in it’s final week of exhibition, so if you happen to be in Tokyo right now, don’t hesitate.
