Panzer Angel Gabriel is an art book for lovers of mecha, in particular power/exosuits. The 2 contributing artists/authors of this book are heavyweights of mecha design/illustration, namely Katoh Naoyuki, a veteran artist who has contributed to many science fiction illustrations since the 1970s, and Miyatake Kazutaka, a mecha designer whose credits include Macross, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny, Space Battleship Yamato, just to name a few.
The rough pencil sketches of the suits and mecha are accompanied by plenty of highly detailed and realistic color illustrations to flesh out/visualize the 3 dimensional form of the designs.
(above & below) Powersuits designed by Miyatake – the resemblance to mecha he designed for Macross, in particular the Zentradi are unmistakeable.
Realized models of some of the mecha and exosuits are featured near the end of the book.
A visual feast for mecha fans, the book is also an excellent resource and reference for those who are interested in designing their own. Highly recommended.
Note – the cover illustration of the book has been updated (see above) but Amazon’s item page still shows the old design ( see image on purchase link below ); they’re the same book.
