Your Name -( 君の名は。) is anime director Makoto Shinkai’s latest film which has taken the Japanese box office by storm, earning more than several Ghibli films, no mere feat. The director’s storytelling skills have improved with each film he has released, and while I haven’t seen this one yet I have a feeling I’ll like it.
The visual guide offers a great overall view of the film, including story synopsis, cast and crew interviews as well as a selection of art work; storyboards, character design sheets, set designs and background art.
One of the greatest highlights of Makoto Shinkai’s films is of course the beautiful background art, many of which are based on real life locations in Tokyo and Japan. The “Tokyo Location Map” section in the book allows the viewer to identify key locations in Tokyo that are featured in the film. A decent visual guide that provides a nice overview of the film. Interesting, there is yet another visual guide out there that seem to offer similar content to this book.
Given the immense popularity of the film I’m hoping there will be another art book which focuses solely on the art work, or the background art, just like this one for the Garden Of Words, which is breathtaking.
