Have you ever watched any of Studio Ghibli’s animated films and salivated at the amazing sight of those mouth-watering food ? Well then this book is for you !
(スタジオジブリの食べものがいっぱい) – “The (Bountiful) food of Ghibli Films” showcases the many delicious food featured in many of the studio’s films, from the ramen in Ponyo, the riceball in Spirted Away to the bentos in My Neighbour Totoro.
I was a little surprised that the food in my favorite Ghibli film Princess Mononoke isn’t featured in here ( the scene where Ashitaka and Jiko Bou shares a pot of porridge, for example ), but maybe because it didn’t really look all that tasty ! It’s just a small pitpick anyway.
This picture book is actually mean for small children and kids, so all the Japanese kanji words come with furigana ( hiragana characters to help learn the pronunciation of the words ), which is great for learning Japanese too ! If you don’t care about that, the pictures themselves still make for great reading.
There are two other books in the series – the Rides/Vehicles of Ghibli Films and the Animals Of Ghibli Films, if you are interested in the entire set.
