I saw this last December but had forgotten to write about it; a teaser trailer for Sand Land, an upcoming animation project adapted from the manga of the same name by Dragonball creator Toriyama Akira. Check it out below –
In a desert world where both demons and humans suffer from an extreme water shortage, Beelzebub, the prince of demons, and Rao, a small-town sheriff, form a tag-team and set off on an adventure in search of the Phantom Lake somewhere in the desert. The manga was first serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2000 before been compiled into a tankobon volume.
While any animation project featuring the work of Toriyama Akira will always be welcomed, what interested me even more are the animation studios that will be working it; namely Sunrise, Kamikaze Douga and ANIMA. Kamikaze Douga is renowned for creating really dynamic animation pieces in CG that mimic the look of traditional 2D anime, and many of my ex-colleagues whom I worked on Freedom are from Sunrise and Kamikaze, so I am sure the quality of animation will be fantastic.
Sand Land will be released some time this year, so definitely look out for it !
