By sheer coincidence, two visually creative commercials for fast food chain McDonald’s appeared on my twitter feed on the same day, and I thought it would be interesting to share them here. One was done for McDonald’s UK and the other for Japan, and stylistically speaking they could not be more different, but both are so tastefully done and fun I have no doubt it will do wonders for the branding.
The first is the Japanese piece, a funky and colorful animated MTV featuring the music of ADO/PAKU. The character designs are actually done by Japanese illustrator Acky Bright, whose art book I reviewed recently. Check out the MTV below –
And the 2nd advert is a spot directed by Scott Pilgrim/Baby Driver director Edgar Wright. The commercial eschew almost all of the usual branding cues we associate with McDonald’s and is a fun and refreshing take for the franchise –
