The music video for Swedish experimental rock band Freak Kitchen’s Freak Of The Week features some stunningly good 2D animated sequences, directed by the Spanish comic artist Juanjo Guarnido. Guarnido honed his animation skills at Disney and was the lead animator for Sabor, the leopard character in Tarzan.
Check out some screencaps from the MTV and watch the full sequence below.
The superb quality of the animation is enhanced by the brilliant cinematography, dynamic camera moves and smooth integration with the CG elements, creating an electrifying viewing experience. As I watched the sequence I kept thinking this is how the beautiful illustrations by Japanese artist Rockin’ Jelly Bean would look animated.

The animation elements are gorgeous. I only wish they had decided to not intercut the 40-50’s film elements with the animation. Just my opinion and in the long run it’s the only gripe I have with the video. Maybe the animation sequences ran short, or they didn’t have the budget to fill the entire length of the song with animation. Personally I would have liked the whole video to be that animation sequence because it was really beautiful. All and all a great video to watch. Thanks for sharing!

Don – Yes I’m thinking they had to fill in the rest of the MTV with the film footage to make up for the length too. Still an amazing piece of work nontheless, glad you enjoyed it ! :]

Juanjo Guarnido is a great draftsman, he draws a Franco-Belgian comic called “Blacksad”, you should check it out, the art is absolutely superb
