Evangelion : 2.0 You Can(Not) Advance.

Posted By yonghow on May 13th, 2009

(above) Advance ticket designs for the upcoming Evangelion : 2.0 You Can(Not) Advance, due to hit theatres here on the 27th of June. Now if any EV fan can tell me the meaning of that cryptic tagline I’ll be much obliged, though at any rate it reeks suspiciously of Engrish.

Nitpicking aside, Tokyo is all geared up for Evangelion fever with the theatrical release round the corner, and the first wave is all set to invade the ubiquitous combinis ( convenience stalls ) :

“Good Coffee Smile !” Come next week UCC’s Evangelion project, a product tie-up with six collectable can designs (and mini figures) will see hundreds and thousands of EV fans descend upon the many convenience stalls throughout the country in a frenzy bid to collect them all. Hurry up while stocks last ! (below) Some designs released for the previous film Evangelion 1.0.

And now a quick glimpse of what to expect in 2.0 :

I’ll probably skip the cinema and rent this on dvd or blu-ray later on. Anyone else keen on catching this ? :]

Hmmm… I dunno, the series is pretty much dead to me. I haven’t even watch 1.0 yet, but I doubt watching it again with updated visual will have the same impact as when I watched it back in 1997. I probably will buy it on dvd just for collection.

…that is if they ever gonna release it here.

Mike

Loved the first eva, even though I’m not much of an anime fan. This is 2.0, so does that mean there was another movie before this other than the 2 main movies that complete the first series?

rulascalaca

Hi, i watched 1.0 last year and is great, the look is different, much more rich in terms of composition, scenarios, and animation, new 3d adds, plus more scenes, also the last episode was completely rebuild. I watched the original series and can tell the improvements are great, hope to see 2.0 soon.

Bad luck the only chance to see it here in mexico is through amazon.jp, play-asia or e-bay, a little expensive, but is worth every dollar.

The tagline don`t really know, i supposed it´s beacuse the plot regarding that compilation of episodes.

NICE BLOG! I DISCOVER IT JUST RECENTLY.
READ YOUR BIOGRAPY ALSO, CONGRATS MAN!
FREEDOM WAS GREAT!!

guilherme

nice blog it’s already bookmarked, as to the movie i wouldn’t mind to see if it will someday reach theather in portugal, maybe i’ll try to buy it or rent it so…

gordon

definitely.

hope singapore don’t have to wait 1 year like for 1.0.

helen

looking forward to this

(feel bad for NGE otaku right now – they’re probably going to dish out lots of $$$…)

TDD

I’d say that I’m a pretty big fan of Evangelion. There’s no time in my life where I could refuse to watch it if someone suggested it. So I’m looking forward to 2.0 a lot!

kunrong

Been seeing alot of hype for this. I’m not sure, probably will catch it. I think i have mixed feelings about this and no i have no idea what can(not) advance means!

rulascalaca

Maybe the tag line “You Can(Not) Advance” is about the feeling of the characters in that particular moment of the history, like 1.0 was “You Are(Not)Alone” and is more about Shinji and Rei and their feeling of loneliness, 2.0 is about Asuka and the sensation she start to developed about be compared with Shinji… nothing official that i know anyway.

But a meaning is there of course.

Stefan

I hope it makes it to the big screen in Singapore 🙂

tragic comedy

the all new Asuka looks lovely!

There’s a joy in seeing Yoshiyuki Sadamoto’s work. His style influenced so much anime faces but it still stands out from the crowd every time I see his work.

We here in the States arent lucky enough to see the movie yet. Hopefully it’ll get a semi-major cinema release (if we’re lucky that is).

rich8606 – I realize there are 2 schools of EV fans, the first who love it whether its the old or new one, and the 2nd group that says, “What’s new ?” – Not that anyone is right or wrong, of course. :]

Mike – Oh yes, this is the new “Rebuild” series, a spruced up version of the original films. :]

rulascalaca – Thanks for the kind words and for the explanation, you must be a big EV fan !

guilherme – Thanks for bookmarking ! :]

gordon/Stefan – Was it a full year ? In any case, I’m pretty sure it will be in theatres given that they’ve already bought in the first one.

helen – Haha…I might snag a couple of those coffee meself…

TDD – I’ve only started following EV recently, and the animation is amazing.

kunrong – Haha…its engrish I think…

tragic comedy – No arguments there. :]

weigy – Did they release the first one in the states ?

since 1997, i have become such a huge huge fan of Evangelion & i will remain one for ever. I actually own all of the series, the 2 movies & Evangelion 1.0. Evangelion 2.0 will be a excellent movie & i cant wait to see it. hurry up & release it in Australia as i am currently pacing around my town trying to find a copy. NEON GENESIS EVANGELION is the best anime series out of them all. Well done to the creator of this series & keep up the excellent work. I look foward to seeing the actual live action movie ( if it comes out) & Evangelion 3.0 next year.

rulascalaca

Here in Mexico, Tower Records sells EV series standard and platinum, but not 1.0 and i don´t think it will arrive anytime soon, sooo….

jejejejejejejejeje…

i went to tokio last year and find the las copy -at least this guy told me that- of 1.0 in the Tower Records of Yodobashi-Akiba in Akihabara…. i have to insist to this guy like about half an hour… both with our awful english, was so fun!!!

and…. he agreed at the end!
yuppi!!!

Jasrie

Hmm.. i cant wait for it to come out. And im even more excited to listen to its theme song, by Utada Hikaru, her latest coming this june! Have you listened to her english album yet? It’s really quite good!

strouzy

I am so looking forward for this one, i was quite young back in 97 so i hardly undersatnd the complexity of the original masterpeace.
For me this is another Interpretation of the original story, watching Evangelion rebuild is not the same as watching the original series. It has a totally different feel attached to ist (due to its “facelifting”

TDD

I was about 10 years old when it first aired on television and as such, it left me thinking, “big robots are cool!”. Watching ‘The End of Evangelion’ and ‘Death and Rebirth’ at about age 15, in contrast, left me thinking, “big robots are scary – very, very scary.” (A reference to the mass production EVAs and what they did to Unit 02. I have not watched these movies since.)

David

Having just seen Evangelion 1.0, I was well impressed with it. The animation and concepts were pretty incredible.

I will be looking out for 2.0 for sure.

leinad

I believe that the tagline “YOU CAN (NOT) ADVANCE” is referring to the ending of the movie. Watch the movie, I shall not spoil it. They did not advance.

nagano

oh, amazing, I just saw this movie in cinema tonight. I was so impressed by the ‘rebuild’ of the movie. they really did the best out of it. i like that there is also much time spent on the human relations. the synchro is so great as well. oh… I am still living in this EVA world… definitely looking forward to watch 3.0.

Lizer21

Enserio vistes la peli en españa, que envidia aqui en México nunca la pasarian en algun cine, Bueno tengo el consuelo de que llega el dvd a mediados de mayo.

Habbit

Initial cam leaks online are awful, but yeah I’d see it in theatres. I’m fascinated how much milage Gainax is getting out of EVA. It’s like reliving/re-editing the same nightmare over and over.

Morgan

I don’t know with you guys, but the movie was crap. I was and still am a big fan of the series but the movie’s plot feels a rushed. It looked great, no question about that, but the storyline was too predictable.

I’ve seen the original on Ebay for $20 for the DVD. 🙂
