The Art Of Kubo And The Two Strings Book Review

This is the official art book for stop-motion animation house Laika’s 4th feature film Kubo And The Two Strings.

Just like the previous art of books ( Paranorman, The Boxtrolls ) from the studio this volume is packed full of gorgeous behind the scenes art work including character and environment designs, image and story boards, as well as some production photographs featuring the superbly detailed and elaborate puppets and props used in the production of the film.

The is definitely more an “art of” rather than “making of” book, although I certainly wished the content could have covered both, with more coverage and pictures showcasing the incredibly models and puppets that Laika created. I am sure the future blu-ray release will feature some great videos on the making of.

The Art Of Kubo And The Two Strings Book Review

Despite the light content coverage on the tangible film-making aspect of the movie ( props, sets, puppets ), the fantastic collection of beautiful art work featured in this book still makes it a worthwhile purchase. Highly recommended.
