Interstellar – Beyond Time And Space explores the art and making of Christopher Nolan’s science fiction epic, based on a story by astrophysicist Kip Thorne. The book covers interviews with the director and various key personnel of the production team, as well as a sizable collection of concept art including storyboards, costume, set and spaceship designs.
Aesthetics wise this is a beautifully designed book with great layouts and the typeface is printed with a stylish, reflective silver tone. The images and especially the production photographs are incredibly sharp, crisp and full of detail.
Christopher Nolan’s films are known for their incredible production design and attention to detail for the sets, and Interstellar is no different. On this note I wish the book could have included just that little more content on the preproduction stage; concept art, set and props designs.
By comparison the material here feels a little light compared to the excellent Art & Making Of Dark Knight Trilogy book.
A great companion to an epic and thought provoking film; this is an easy recommendation.
Technical note : Many reviewers on Amazon have commented that the pages tend stick together due to the print ink and my copy is the same, but it didn’t really bother me that much.
