Sorolla - The Masterworks Art Book

Joaquín Sorolla (1863 – 1923) was a Spanish painter who excelled in landscapes and formal portraits. His painting style was influenced by French Impressionism, but they also carried a gentle, realistic touch that was in tune with the work of Sargent.

This hard cover volume collects one hundred of his best works, carefully curated by by the great-grand daughter of the artist and author of this book, Blanca Pons-Sorolla. The paintings are beautifully reproduced in sharp and vivid quality and are excellent for appreciation.

Many of the painter’s original work are housed in the Sorolla Museum in Madrid, the premises of which used to be the artist’s home. Another great reason to visit Madrid ( the other being Museo Del Prado ), where many of legendary Spanish painter Diego Velazquez’s works are found.

Museo del Prado and Casa Sorolla aren’t the only great reasons any artist can have to come here, specially for someone like you who appreciates the Spanish ‘Siglo de Oro’ art; The Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza is just a few meters away from Museo del Prado (seriously, they are very close) and it has a really cool complementary collection to El Prado’s mighty one. Their upcoming Zurbarán exposition is a must see for anyone interested in magnificent contemporaries of El Maestro Velázquez:
