I was at the local post office shipping some books and bought this in a heartbeat after seeing it. Both the Patlabor animation series and feature films are big favourites of mine.
Put together classy (not flashy) mecha, interesting, impressionable characters, engaging plotlines, and you have a winning anime; Patlabor is that and more. ( if you think Patlabor is just another of those nondescript anime with big robots, you are really quite mistaken. ) Ghost in the Shell director Oshii Mamoru takes the excellent series to even greater heights with his 2 feature films; Patlabor The Movie 2 is one of my favourite anime films of all times.

Folks who are interested in collecting this can get one here. There’s even an Evangelion Stamp collection.

With me, it’s the other way round. I saw and loved the films, but never the series.

I love the Patlabor movies.. especially the interludes where they show off the awesome city scenes, abandoned warehouses, blistering summer scenes, etc. These films have such a great atmosphere.

I’m not a stamp collector but its amazing to see stamps featuring anime; don’t see any “anime stamps” here. 🙁

gordon – I highly recommend the feature films !
Harry – The series might not be as suspenseful at the films, but you get to immerse in the drama between the main characters of Patlabor and understand them better, making the feature film even more enjoyable.
Rence – That’s the Mamoru touch alright. Of course, it won’t be complete without Kawai Kenji’s haunting score. :]
Hynavian – I guess that’s the great thing about Tokyo; anime is so popular here so you can find anime endorsed products easily.

Awesome! I love Patlabor – especially the 2nd film. One of the finest pieces of animation of all time. Amazing soundtrack, brilliant cinematography, and mature and grown-up, without resorting to needless T&A, swearing and gore.
Dibs on the 3rd stamp down! The snow scenes were stunningly beautiful in Pat2, thanks to Kawai’s brilliant music.

wow…that’s amazing.
How long do these things stay in circulation for? I’m going to be in Tokyo in November – would I still be able to just go into a post office and pick one up?
Cheers – great blog, BTW. If you get a chance, check out mine:
