Japanese fashion photographer/director Ninagawa Mika shoots the starlet Mizuhara Kiko ( who recently starred in the film adaptation of Murakami Haruki’s Norwegian Forest ) in this pictorial titled simply “Girl”.
The image of a girl donning nothing but a native American head dress isn’t exactly new ( photographer Mark Seliger probably did it first – see this post ), and also Leslie Kee for Leah Dizon’s pictorial “Heaven”.
Ninagawa has carved out a very distinctive shooting style of her own, with a color palette dominated by intense, saturated red, yellow and blue tones. This visual exuberance made her the perfect director for the film adaptation of the manga “Sakuran“, which I highly recommend for it’s amazing cinematography and dizzying gamut of Kimono wardrobe. She has just recently completed her 2nd feature film Helter Skelter – I need to find some way to catch the film.
