After a brisk stroll along the chilly shoreline of lake Chuzenji ( see this earlier post. ) we happened upon the shinto shrine Futarasan, apparently one of three situated in the area.
(above) A sleepy looking buffalo carved from a gargantuan piece of stone greets visitors near the entrance. (below) Looking back from the main gate of the shrine one can catch a great view of the lake. Even here the frosty snowflakes from the mountains across the lake are still drifting in.
(above) Just next to the main entrance a spectacular maple tree full of fiery red leaves beckon visitors to the shrine.
(above) A shrine maiden making her rounds.
(above) An exqusitely carved wooden decorative piece above the main entrance door, I especially like the curves and twirls depiciting the waves.
From here on it’s a steep ascent into the mountains as we attempt to locate some momiji clusters to shoot. More pictures of those in the next post.
