The Akira Art Of Wall is an upcoming exhibition to be held at the newly renovated Parco Shibuya shopping mall located in Shibuya, Tokyo in late November 2019.
From May 2017 to August 2019, 4 different sets of giant murals featuring the art work from Otomo Katsuhiro’s groundbreaking manga Akira were on display outside the construction walls of Parco Shibuya as it underwent renovation. 2019 is a year of special significance as it is the year where the events of Akira takes place.
I visited the location a couple of times since 2017 and the photographs I took can be seen here, here and here.
The special exhibition commemorates the completion of Parco Shibuya’s 3 year renovation as well as the art of Otomo’s Akira, and art work from the different sets of murals will be on display, as well as sales of special Akira merchandize.
The exhibition will be taking place at 2 separate locations at Parco Shibuya, namely PARCO MUSEUM TOKYO and GALLERY X. For more information, check out the offiical website here.
