Yume No Kaseki (Dream Fossil) is a collection of 15 short manga stories by the late anime director Kon Satoshi ( Paprika, Perfect Blue, Tokyo Godfathers ), including his debut work in Young Magazine, a sci-fiction piece titled “Carve”. (see 1st & 2nd panels below.)
As a protege of Otomo Katsuhiro (Akira), Kon Satoshi’s illustration and storytelling style shows a palpable influence from his mentor, but through the years he slowly developed his own unique “voice”, often utilizing themes that carry a strong association with dreams and imagination.
(above & below) Some rare painted pages; the choice of a rather subdued color palette bears resemblance to that of Otomo’s, who in turned is strongly influenced by the legendary Moebius.
To see more of Kon Satoshi’s colored illustration works, check out this art book. The cover illustration used for Yume No Kaseki can also be found in this book.
A must have volume for fans of Kon Satoshi. I do not yet know of any plans to release this in English, but the sheer quantity of Kon Satoshi art work (424 pages) collected in here is still worth the price of the book, IMHO.

There is also the Spanish edition of this book. (good for me!)
I am sorry to ask you again but do you know if there is or will be any book no Masaaki Yuasa and his art?

Kamikaze – Wow there is a Spanish edition ?! Cool ! Do you have a picture link to the cover of the book somewhere ? :]
Regarding your question, I’ve not heard of any news to release a Yuasa art book, but I’m sure he has enough art work to make one if he wants to. We’ll just have to wait and see I guess. 😛

Yes, fortunately there is one! It is on sale on Amazon UK, just down below.
I hope he does. He is marvellous and I truly want to take a peep behind the scenes and learn from his art 🙂

i also have the spanish edition of this book but still haven’t read it. Spanish editorials release a lot of good mangas. I even found Shintaro Kago’s works released in spanish >.<

I didn’t know Shintaro Kago 😮 What manga do you recommend from him?

When i said that there are good releases in spanish, i didn’t mean Kago’s works. His works are so strange and stupid that i don’t know how did his works got released outside Japan.

Instead of Kago, i reccomend Naoki Urasawa’ works Monster, Pluto, 20th Century Boys and Billy Bat. All of them released in spanish.
Too bad i don’t see as many Artbooks as mangas released. I think i never found a Satoshi Kon artbook in my country. I did found Inoue Takehiko’s Water but only once. Most of comic stores has only artbooks of Evangelion, Full Metal Alchemist and Naruto.
