Spring Breeze Snegurochka ( Harukaze No Sunegurachika ) is a manga by Blade Of The Immortal artist Samura Hiroaki. The comic was first serialized in the manga magazine Manga Erotics f ( see this older post ) and is now available as a complete tankobon volume in ths book.
Snegurochka’s story is based in Russia during the 1930s, a historical romance tale of loss and redemption centering on the lives of a wheelchair bound girl named Bielka and her male attendant named Shishenok.
Unlike Samura’s earlier comics, where sword fights and action scenes took heavy precedence, Snegurochka is a much slower paced story with no battle sequences, so fans might need to adjust their expectations. Samura’s art work is still beautiful to look at, nonetheless.
Snegurochka means The Snow Maiden and is actually a character often seen in Russian fairy tales; Samura probably used this as a creative basis/inspiration for his manga.
For fans of Samurai Hiroaki’s comics and art work. For readers who are new to his manga, I highly suggest reading Blade Of The Immortal first.
