Kow Yokoyama is a Japanese artist/sculptor and creator of the science fiction series Maschinen Krieger ( formerly called SF3D when published in the magazine Hobby Japan ). His mecha designs bear a unique and distinctively organic look and have over the years garnered a cult following by mecha and model kit fans.
This sketchbook is a compilation of his many sketches, a brain dump of his visual ideas if you will.
The book is broken up into 5 main sections, including art work on Maschinen Krieger, Mars Troops, Zoids, and his personal sketches. Yokoyama-san has numerous publications to his name but this is a great one to start off with because of the wide range of subjects it covers.
(above) Yokoyama’s somewhat unorthodox mecha designs must have served as a useful source of inspiration and reference for many a concept artist when they were researching ideas and images for sci-fi mecha and machinery.
