Akira “Akiman” Yasuda Short Documentary

Youtube channel toco toco tv has just released this 15 minute short documentary on the work of famed Japanese character designer/illustrator Akira Yasuda ( nicknamed Akiman ), who has worked on such iconic titles like Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, Captain Commando and the anime Turn-A Gundam. The artist talks about his creative journey into the games and animation industry and is well worth a watch –

I’m certainly a fan of Akiman’s art work, more so for his designs in Turn-A Gundam and Darkstalkers rather than Street Fighter, the latter of which has likely bought him the most fame. I highly recommend checking out his art book for Turn-A Gundam. The Street Fighter and Darkstalkers art book also contain a fair bit of his character design work.

That was awesome! Someone needs to do a documentary on the 90s Capcom art team..would love to hear from Kinu Nishimura and Bengus in particular.

Wow! Love Akiman’s work
@Danny That capcom 90s team were awesome.
A documentary can’t come soon enough.
Love Ikeno and Edayan as well.
Bengus was my favourite though.
In the Darkstalkers artbook, Akiman ranks Bengus above both Otomo and Moebius. I wouldn’t rank him that high but that just shows how respected he is.
