For the past 9 months or so I’ve been working on Duncan Jones’ film adaptation of Blizzard’s immensely popular game Warcraft over at ILM Singapore.
The film isn’t due for release for about another year (June 10th 2016), but Legendary has finally released these 2 images of Orgrim Doomhammer, one of the lead orc characters in the film.
Impressive as these still images look, the real impact really hits home when you get to see the character in motion and in conversation. Some serious jaw-dropping is guaranteed. During Blizzcon earlier this year, many a Warcraft fan actually got misty eyed when they were shown a particularly effecting shot of Durotan ( the lead orc character in the film ) doing nothing but “emoting”. I swear I could feel a living, breathing soul behind those shimmering eyes. That is a really, really awesome shot.
I’m proud to have worked alongside so many talented folks on such an amazing project, and I can’t wait for you guys to see it. June 10th, 2016.

Yeah, I commented on the quality of these models over at Aint It Cool News. Someone said it looked “photorealistic,” and I set it was even better, like it was an actual sculpt that they just photographed in a studio. I think “photoreal” is an abused and misunderstood term, but I’ll leave that for another time.
Point is, looks incredible. What programs would they use to achieve this?

King Raoh – Glad you like it. :] The end product is created by a combination of many disciplines using various different software but it was rendered with Renderman.
