One of the most eagerly anticipated films of 2010, TRON : Legacy was hampered by a somewhat clumsy and hackneyed screenplay that derezzed ( a TRON term ) its potential to be a great film. On many an occasion the Mise-en-scène showed promise of cinematic greatness, that exhilarating “F**k Yeah !” moment, but ultimately failed to gain momentum. Most of the elements were in place, but it just didn’t happen.
All that said, I still enjoyed the movie and I think the stunning visuals alone are worth your money and a trip to the theatre. Not to mention the awesome soundtrack by Daft Punk. I’m a little cynical about anything 3D, so I watched the 2D version – let me know if I was wrong to do so.
I’m looking forward to revisiting this again on blu-ray.

Seeing it in 3D added to the film’s visual aspect so much more. Objects don’t come flying out of the screen, but the foreground and background are separated and it makes the whole thing look more active and vibrant, in my opinion. Should have seen it in 3D!

TRON: LEGACY is now my all-time favorite sci-fi film after BLADE RUNNER. It’s truly a visionary art masterwork, & the phenomenal score by DAFT PUNK was my favorite part (the sound design in general was exceptional, like how the drinking glasses chimed a long echo when clinked together). I also am not a fan of 3D, yet with TRON it is FULLY WORTH IT (being actually filmed in 3D, not converted at the last minute). I think AVATAR & TRON are the only two films that are elevated by 3D. People, do yourself a favor & GO SEE THIS NOW, because you’re missing out. It’s a masterwork…

Haha, I’ve heard very conflicting views on the 2D/3D versions of the film, but I guess the most important thing is that I liked it ! Come blu-ray soon, please.

the movie mostly have already a dark atmosphere, watching it in 3d will make it darker, well that’s my 2 cents on my preference on 2d over 3d 🙂

yeah saw at the 3D IMAX here. Visually I thought it was incredible. easily the best 3D film to date. I’m evidently in the minority that thinks that the writing was perfectly fine. If it wasn’t for Chris Nolan’s Inception, Tron Legacy would be Movie of the Year in my book. I think I’ll prolly catch tron again at the theater a couple more times before it heads out to wait for its bluray release. I hope it gets a 3D release that doesn’t get exclusived by some TV company like Avatar did.
