ILM (Industrial Light & Magic) has released a fantastic VFX breakdown for the shots they created for J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness. Check it out the clip below :

I worked on about ten shots in the film, including the one (see video below) of the cryo chamber near the end of the film which reveals the villain’s fate. Only the cryotube holding Benedict Cumberbatch is real (except the frosty glass shield, which is CG too)- the rest are all CG elements. It was a challenging but fun shot to work on.

Star Trek Into Darkness is one of the nominees in the Visual Effects Category for 2013’s Academy Awards. Of course, we face stiff competition from our own colleagues for their amazing work on Pacific Rim and The Lone Ranger.
