Bandai Visual will be releasing Kon Satoshi’s much beloved anime Millennium Actress on blu-ray come February 21st 2014. The release looks to be a very bare bones edition with nothing on the side of supplements but an audio commentary and the usual theatrical trailers and TV spots. Check out the official cover art below.
While the improvement in video quality of the film is definitely welcomed, the package is definitely lacklustre when compared to the special edition dvd release of the film, which comes with a storyboard and postcard book, a 2nd “Making Of” supplements disc, all housed in a gorgeously designed black box.
The release of Millennium Actress on blu-ray completes Kon Satoshi’s line up of films on high definition, including his other works Perfect Blue, Tokyo Godfathers, Paprika and Paranoid Agent. Sadly, the Dream Machine will probably never see the light of day.
Folks who are fans of Millenium Actress should definitely check out the art of book.
There is also an upcoming Kon Satoshi art book, probably a re-issue of the very limited edition art prints released back in 2011.

I’m sad that this doesn’t have English subtitles. Now I have to wait for the NA release, assuming it’ll get one.

I don’t understand why Dream Machine was put down. Didn’t they already go through a huge chunk of key framing? Is it possible that they’ll pick it back up in the future?

Josh-2 – Bummer, especially when the dvd release had English subtitles. What gives ?
petitorenji – We’re all hoping for that too, but no news from Kon’s Tone or Madhouse so far. :[
