I’m a little behind time for this plug, but the the Japanese Film Festival 2008 organized by the Singapore Film Society starts its run today and its a fantastic opportunity to catch some great Japanese movies, both classic and contemporary. Even better, 3 guest directors will be present during the screening of their respective films so its a rare chance to catch their valuable insights into Japanese filmmaking in person.
Personal recommendations include Ninagawa Mika’s Sakuran (pictured above), as well as The Milk Woman by Ogata Akira , starring Tanaka Yuko ( a veteran Japanese actress who also voiced Lady Eboshi in Miyazaki Hayao’s Mononoke Hime ).
