Over the last weekend I binge-watched and completed Cabinet of Curiosities, an American horror anthology streaming television series created by Guillermo del Toro for Netflix. It features eight modern horror stories in the traditions of the Gothic and Grand Guignol genres; two are co-written by del Toro himself, while the others are written and directed by various filmmakers. Check out the trailer below –
There are many strong entries among the 8 episodes and my personal favorites are The Viewing and Pickman’s Model; watching the series definitely reminded me of The Ray Bradbury Theater; short stories with fascinating concepts and intriguing premises that really set your imagination on fire.
Guillermo del Toro is one of my fav filmmakers and the hallmarks of his cinematic work are always the immense and elaborate art direction, set and costume designs and this series is no exception. The creature designs are done by his long time collaborator Guy Davis, whom I’m a big fan of as well.
There’s so much amazing visual design going on through all the episodes and I hope Netflix and a publishing house will release a making/art book to showcase them all, just like the books for GDT’s previous films. In the meantime, definitely check out the series on Netflix.

I’m really looking forward to seeing this, I’ve been kind of busy with a project, and hadn’t had the time to dive in yet. (I’m also stoked for Del Toro’s Pinocchio!!)
By the way, I am having issues with the email updates, I haven’t been receiving them at all as of late.
