Green Universe – Ohrai Noriyoshi is a sumptuous collection of stunning artwork by prolific Japanese illustrator Ohrai Noriyoshi, whose repertoire of work runs the gamut from Starwars to Koei’s Romance Of The Three Kingdoms, Godzilla and many more. He works primarily in oil paint.
(above right ) Noriyoshi-san gained wide acclaim for his work when he was commissioned by Lucasfilm to paint the international poster for The Empire Strikes Back in 1980.
(above) Poster for the 2006 remake of the Tokusatsu disaster film The Sinking Of Japan.
(above right) Poster for the 1977 horror film Tentacles.
(above & below) Art work for Koei’s Romance Of The Three Kingdom video game series.
(above) Noriyoshi-san has also painted countless covers for books and novels.
A spectacular volume of gorgeous poster art work from a truly talented painter and artist. This is the first time such a huge collection of Noriyoshi’s illustrations have been published in an art book. My highest recommendations.

The blond guy with an eagle, a jaguar and a Ferret behind him seems to be from Beastmaster (80’s movie).

Li-An / Don Austin – Cannot recommend it enought. :]
AF – The caption in the book identifies it as “Miracle Master”, but maybe that’s the Japanese title for Beastmaster in Japan. :]

I already have bought his second art book (found on the Web on a Turkish bookseller !) but not the first one.

I get it and I’m a little disapointed. The http://www.li-an.fr/blog/zolies-images/illustrations-ii-genma-noriyoshi-ohrai-editeur/ was much more fascinating to me.
As Green Universes is about all his work, there are plenty of images not so interesting for me.

Li-An : Thanks for the link to his older art book. I think this one is much harder to find, I guess the new book gives newcomers to his art a chance to appreciate it. :]

Great review, great artist, great book — I bought it using your link too 🙂 So sad I missed the major exhibition of these original works in Japan last year 🙁
