Warner Brothers Japan has just released the first trailer for the upcoming live-action adaptation of BLEACH, based on the hugely popular manga of the same name by Kubo Taito. The story follows the adventures of teenager Kurosaki Ichigo after he inherits the supernatural powers of a Soul Reaper. Check out the trailer below –
The VFX and CGI in the film are created by Digital Frontier, one of the bigger animation/effects houses in Tokyo; another of their recent works include the VFX for yet another live-action manga adaptation – Inuyashiki.
Both of these films are directed by Sato Shinsuke, who also helmed the first live-action Gantz film. The flashy costumes and larger than life weapons seen in the trailer quickly reminds one of cheesy cosplay, but I’m hoping there will be some good action sequences that will make the film enjoyable. BLEACH will screen domestically in Japan on the 20th of July 2018.
