Recently I’ve been indulging myself in some high-def Alien action with the anthology blu-ray collection. Here are some pictures from inside the boxset :
I was completely bowled over by the superb picture quality in both Ridley Scott’s Alien and Cameron’s Aliens, the former especially because it was released in 1979, which makes the film as old as I am ! Images in both are sharp and crisp, with a great sense of depth/dimension and rich colors. Less can be said of Alien Resurrection, which is really a pity because it was shot by DP Darius Khondji and had such beautiful cinematography. I haven’t checked out Alien 3 – its my least fav film in the series, and I cringe every time when the crummy CGI alien shows up on screen – seeing it in high-def will only make it worse.
Haven’t had time to check out the extras yet, perhaps later. Despite the somewhat disappointing picture quality of Alien Resurrection, the box set is still of great value, especially if you enjoy the first 2 films.
Alien Anthology Blu-ray Collection details :
– 6 Blu-ray discs, 4 films

great set of movies. i have the older remastered 8 disc quadrilogy dvd, and it’s still pretty great. a friend of mine just got this and loved it. the first two movies are incredible, and i gotta say, i actually still really like the second two, just not quite as much.

There’s no CGI alien in Alien 3. it’s all costumes and go-motion puppetry. I actually really like those FX, think it’s the last time the xenomorphs looked good. detested the redesigned versions for Resurrection and the Alien vs Predator films.

yeah, the Alien vs Predator movies are basically just big bags of bullshit; the second one, from what i saw, just seemed like a teen slasher flick.
