Tabi Izanau Hikari no Tsubu is a large format, hard cover art book by Japanese artist Inoue Naohisa, known for his work on Ghibli’s animated film Whisper Of The Heart. His original story and paintings of The Day I Bought A Star was also adapted into an animated short that is screened only at the Saturn Theater of the Ghibi Museum in Mitaka, Tokyo.
I purchased this copy of the book while visiting Inoue’s exhibition held at the Bunkamura Gallery in Shibuya earlier in June this year. I was very lucky that Inoue-san himself was present during the exhibition, and he very graciously signed my copy of the book with a personalized autograph ( image below ).
Quite possibly Inoue-san’s largest sized art book to date, the huge print size really shows off the surrealistic vista landscapes of the artist’s paintings to great effect.
Inoue Naohisa’s large scale canvas paintings are best appreciated in person at one of his exhibitions in Japan, but besides that this large format art book with fantastic reproductions of his work is likely the next best thing. The price tag is higher than your average A4 sized art book ( usually in the range of 2500-3000 yen ), but justifiably so because of the hard cover binding and large format print size. Recommended for fans of Inoue Naoshisa’s mesmerizing art.

The first thing I did was to jump to the bottom of the page to view the dimensions of the book.
And they are appreciable.
I have all of INOUE’s artbooks titled “The natural history of Iblard” (6 in total), and always find it a pity that they are a little too small for his fascinating landscapes.
Lucky you, you had the opportunity to view the original paintings 🙂
Thanks for the review.
