Inspired by the tokusatsu heroes and kaijus of the Japanese Ultraman franchise, and further infused with a hearty dose of Lovecraftian horror, BPRD and Rumble comic artist James Harren bring us Ultramega !
A cosmic plague has spread, transforming everyday people into violent, monstrous kaiju. Only the Ultramega – three individuals imbued with incredible powers – hold the line against this madness. Their battles level cities and leave untold horror in their wake. Now, the final reckoning approaches for the Ultramega… but is this a war they can even win?
Regular fans of my blog will know that I am a big fan of James Harren since discovering his work in the Hellboy spin-off series BPRD. I especially enjoy the way the artist draw and depict action, with dramatic poses and speed-lines that really accentuate the frenetic, often chaotic energy and movement of his characters. James Harren also has a special knack for illustrating…beautiful, or if you prefer, macabre looking innards and tentacle-ish things.
This ominibus Vol 1 collects Ultramega TP issues 1-4. I was hoping a for a hard-cover edition because they tend to last much longer, but it doesn’t seem one would be out anytime soon so I went ahead with this soft-cover edition first.
Ultramega is a fun and light read with fantastic art work by James Harren. If you enjoy Ultraman, even better ! Definitely looking forward to Vol 2, and this comes recommended.

Looks cool, I’ll have to check it out.
Have you heard of Humanity Lost? It’s a sci-fi comic based on speculative biology.
Here’s a good summary video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxVjFYi-9JU
Really, really well-illustrated and it’s become even more fascinating (and frightening) when you consider that what’s depicted is within the realm of possibility. One of many potential futures…
