The Twelve Kingdoms ( Juni Kokuki – 十二国記 ) Settei art book showcases illustrations and character model sheets by famed manga/concept artist Yamada Akihiro ( Lodoss War : Lady Of Pharis, RahXephon ) for the anime The Twelve Kingdoms, based on a series of light novels by Ono Fuyumi.
On top of the many beautiful color illustrations, there are close to 100 pieces of character model sheets that really show off the amazing character design work that Yamada Akihiro created for this anime adaptation. If you like the style of his work, I most certainly recommend checking out the character designs he worked on for the Shinobi film.
Yamada Akihiro’s Twelve Kingdoms pop-up store at Maruzen Marunouchi bookstore. I will have 2 of his art books for review in the coming weeks.

I’m a really big fan of Yamada Akihiro’s art work so this was a day one purchase for me, and definitely makes for a nice companion to the other two illustration art books that I previously reviewed here and here. This is an easy recommendation for fans of the artist’s work or the anime.

I’m likewise a big fan of Yamada Akihiro’s beautifully detailed character studies, as well as The Twelve Kingdoms anime. Are the contents of this book previously unreleased artworks not found in the other two Akihiro Twelve Kingdoms art books that you already reviewed?
Love this website, it’s like a secret retreat I don’t want to tell anyone about! Keep up the great work.

Laurie – Thank you for supporting this website ! :]
I haven’t done a blow-by-blow comparison with the 2 other art books so I can’t be 100& sure, but I think most of the art work in this book should be new/previously unreleased !
