Toraji Art Works Book Review

I’ve always been a big fan of 3D character artist Toraji‘s work, so the release of the artist’s first art book by publisher Genkosha (玄光社) is very welcome news indeed. Toraji worked previously at Kojima Productions ( Death Stranding ), and the blurb on the promo band for the book is written by none other than legendary MGS artist Yoji Shinkawa, who is also an art director at Kojima Productions.

The book showcases a collection of Toraji’s personal work as well as commissions, and there is also a tutorial section included near the end where the artist takes us through the tools and techniques used to create the book’s cover art piece using a combination of graphic/3d software like MAYA+ ZBrush + Marvelous Designer +Photoshop ( In Japanese language only ).

Toraji’s detailed and realistically rendered period/fantasy pieces are reminiscent of the work by old masters like Rembrandt and the Pre-Raphaelites, both whose work are right up my alley. This is a splendid collection of the artist’s work and comes highly recommended.
