The World Of Ice & Fire - Game Of Thrones Book Review

The World of Ice & Fire : The Untold History of Westeros and the Game of Thrones is a huge hardcover volume that documents comprehensively the history of the realms depicted in George R. R. Martin‘s fantasy novels, made immensely famous by the ongoing HBO series.

I’ve always been fascinated by the rich mythology behind Game Of Thrones, especially that of the Targaryen dynasty and have been reading the Song Of Ice & Fire Wiki pages online. While the written histories are intriguing, I was quite struck by the beautiful illustrations, many of which really set the tone of the stories. A huge number of art work featured in the wiki pages are originally from this book.

There are more than 170 full colored art work and maps featured in this volume, as well as family trees of the Houses on top of the in-depth histories of Westeros.

(image above) Torrhen Stark bends the knee to Aegon Targaryen during the War Of Conquest, and henceforth known as “the king who knelt”. ( This was referenced in he 7th season of HBO’s Game Of Thrones, when Jon Snow meets Danerys Targaryen for the first time. ) It’s beautifully rendered art work of these iconic scenes that really fire my imagination about the worlds created by George R. R. Martin.

Ho la versione italiana del volume. Davvero notevole. Posso dirti che ci vuole davvero un pò di tempo per leggerlo. Ma una volta letto si comprendono meglio le trame della serie Tv, e dei libri!!!

Raccomandato ma non solo per i fan di Game Of Thrones.

I have the Italian version of the volume. Really impressive. I can tell you that it takes a while to read it.

But once you read, you better understand the plot of the TV series, and the books! And he has really nice designs.

Highly recommended – and indeed – but not just for the fans of Game Of Thrones.
