The art/making of books for Wes Anderson’s films have always been of amazing quality, serving as excellent guidebooks to the movies but also peppered with interesting lessons on film-making itself, and this volume is no different.

The official and only making of book for his latest stop-motion animated film Isle Of Dogs, the book features several in-depth interviews with film critic Lauren Wilford and writer/director Wes Anderson, as well as storyboards, write-ups on the cinematic influences of renowned Japanese film directors like Kurosawa Akira and Ozu Yasujiro.

The highlights of the book for me however are always the behind the scenes photographs showing how the actual film was crafted; from the armatures for the numerous characters to the intricate set designs and stunning art direction.

I have to admit I was not as receptive to the film ( as compared to say, Fantastic Mr. Fox ) during my first viewing, but after browsing this book my appreciation for the art of film-making has returned, and I hope to revisit this movie on blu-ray again soon. The book itself earns top marks and gets my highest recommendations.

I also highly recommend the books for his other films like Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Grand Budapest Hotel and The Wes Anderson Collection.
