Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein is one of my favorite films of 2025, and so I’ve been waiting eagerly to get my hands on a copy of this lavish art/making of book ever since I watched the film. It does not disappoint, not one bit.
This hefty hardcover volume spans over 330 pages and showcases all the extraordinary work by each filmmaking discipline/department that culminated in this gothic masterpiece, from costume/prop design to art direction, production design and cinematography. Also included are Guillermo Del Toro’s own developmental sketches and notes ( not unlike those collected in his most excellent Cabinet Of Curiosities book ) as well as many concept art pieces by Del Toro’s long time collaborator, comic artist/concept designer Guy Davis.
There are also many beautiful on-set still photography pieces included, I’ve opted to show less of them here in my preview images below in favor of the art/making of images that can only be seen in the book and not the movie.

A most handsome companion to a most excellent film. At $75 it is not a trivial purchase ( not for me at least ), but the splendid content, both in quality and quantity makes it worthwhile. Highly recommended.

Yikes, it’s already temporarily out of stock in Canada. I didn’t even know this was in print. Gorgeous looking book. Despite some reservations I had about the film in terms of visual effects, the design was, as always with del Toro, rich and detailed. I’d love to get it, even if it’s a little out of my price range since I’ve been spending a lot of my library money on blu-rays and 4Ks these days. (I just got the Laika steelbooks, upgrading them all from the old blu-ray release)

Coffee – Oh yeah, it was out of stock for a while and I quickly ordered a copy when it became available again. The price is higher than what I would usually pay for an art/making of book but I really like the movie and also these books for GDT’s films do go out of print.
BTW I’m just like you, picking up upgrades for my blu-rays on 4K UHD, got quite a few over the Black Friday sales. It’s the one time every year where I can afford to spent a little more on physical media.
